Barong and Kris Dance
Barong and Kris dance like the kecak dance the Barong and Kris dance is a battle between good and evil spirit. Barong can take various forms but in this dance he takes the form of the dance Barong Keket, the most holy of the Barongs. The Barong Keket is a strange creature, half shaggy dog, half lion and is played by two men in much the same way as a circus clown-horse. His opponent is the witch Rangda. The fight between Barong and Rangda is also the topic of traditional narratives, usually performed in the temple of the dead.
Celuk Village and Batuan Village are traditional villages which famous for the incredible gold and silver handcrafts are available around this area for very low prices. As you enter the neighborhood, you’re going to feel as if you were in a jewelry exhibition. On ether side of the road are established many art shops showcasing their finest works inside a glass display case. We will visit one of the best gold and silver art works in celuk village. You can take a closer look at them to appreciate it and buy some if you really like it or you can made custom jewelry based on your design.
No one is sure what the figure represents, but the monstrous face, whose fanged mount is the entrance to a man-made cave, appears to represents an earth spirit clawing its way out of the cosmic mountain, which is populated by a corious and often comical array of animals and phantoms. According to 14th century Javanese scribes, this was one of Bali’s pricipal Buddhist sanctuaries. Yet in the dark tunnels of its cave we find Hindu linggas and a statue of Siwa’s Ganesha, the elephant god of Hinduism. At every turn one is confronted with elements of both religions, ranging from the 8th to 14th centuries, suggesting that Bali’s religious syncretism goes back a very long way.
Scattered thoughout Bali are numerous temple groves and woods which have been set aside as sanctuaries for monkeys, to thank them for the assistance they gave Rama in the rescue of his bride Sita from the clutches of King Rawana, in the Ramayana epic.
